Friday September 23rd, DK Hostmaster suspended a .dk domain name due to the risk of phishing and confusion with SKAT. DK Hostmaster carried out the suspension based on an obvious risk of compromising of IT equipment, an authority that is described in the terms and conditions for the right of use to a .dk domain name.
The suspension was carried out based on a complaint concerning the domain name in question. The domain name was used in connection with a website where personal information, credit card information and passwords were solicited from visitors. Links to the website were sent with SMS messages that pretended to be sent from SKAT.
We would like to encourage all to be extra careful if receiving a message from SKAT, and to keep an eye on the sender and URL addresses.
DK Hostmaster's option to suspend a domain name
As a provider of internet infrastructure, DK Hostmaster does not have the option of suspending a .dk domain names of its own accord. But DK Hostmaster can suspend and delete a .dk domain name after receiving a complaint that clarifies that the following three points in clause 9.2 of the terms are met:
- The domain name is used in connection with an obvious risk of financial crime, compromise of IT equipment, e.g., phishing and malware distribution, and/or content of a highly offensive nature, and
- the use of the domain name creates a risk of confusion with the Domain name, name, logo, trademark, or other characteristics of another natural or legal person, and
- the circumstances cannot wait on a decision from The Complaints Board for Domain Names or the courts.
