DK Hostmaster is a not-for-profit organisation that performs tasks for Danish society:
- We maintain the infrastructure (DNS) in the Danish internet space. Read more here.
- We administer a WHOIS database containing master data on everyone with a registered .dk domain name. Read more here.
We also work to improve security on the internet.
DIFO and DK Hostmaster has chosen a model for administration of domain names in Denmark called sole registry.
In short, that means that all domain names are registered by us, and that there is a direct contractual relationship between us and the customer.
All .dk domain names belong to the sovereign state of Denmark and are managed by DIFO / DK Hostmaster according to the first-come-first-served principle. A person who has the right of use to a domain name is called a registrant and his or her contact information is published in our public WHOIS, unless the person has name and address protection.

DIFO is a not for profit association whose members represent a wide spectrum of the Danish internet community, including suppliers (e.g. Danish IT Industry Association), professional users (The Danish Chamber of Commerce etc.) and private users (the Consumer Council, the Danish IT Society etc.).
